My summer at Bain was great, but switched to McKinsey for full-time
A lot has happened since my last email and there were some learnings that I wanted to pass on to you all!
My summer as an Associate Consultant Intern at Bain was unbelievable. From an amazing intern class (who I’ll miss very much) to a challenging client project to the best team and supervisor, I can say with the highest conviction that Bain is a special place.
As the pandemic happened and other personal things came up, I decided to give recruiting another shot. This decision was mainly driven by the desire to work in Miami (my hometown) and the fact that Bain did not have an office here.
I prepped for cases, practiced math, perfected my behaviorals and landed the job for fulltime at McKinsey in their Miami office.
From this process (internship & recruiting) I learned that:
To be successful in consulting at an entry level means bringing tons of enthusiasm (this 80% of success IMO), doing even the smallest asks with a smile on your face, and embracing the ambiguity (this is tough).
Maintaing relationships is extremely beneficial. As I applied to McKinsey, I reached out to people I had met 1+ years ago. As you think about next fall recruiting, know that you should probably start networking now.
This is the most important one - this was my third time applying to McKinsey. I didn’t get an interview sophomore year, I got dinged in the final round junior year, but I accomplished it my senior year.
